HSCSD
With the HSCSD (High Speed Circuit Switched Data) service, you’ll enjoy exceptionally fast Internet access. Billing is based on the duration of your connection (in minutes) – not on the amount of transmitted data.
HSCSD offers a mobile Internet connection at transmission speeds comparable to those of a regular telephone line.
What you need
- A GSM telephone that supports HSCSD technology or a mobile modem
- An activated data tariff of your choice, such as the O2 Data Nonstop tariff
- A personal computer, notebook, or PDA
- Connection between your telephone and computer via cable, infrared port (IrDA), or Bluetooth
How HSCSD works
For normal phone calls, mobile phones rely on two channels - one for transmitting and one for receiving. HSCSD simultaneously uses additional channels (also known as "timeslots"), the number of which depends on the type of mobile phone being used. The number of timeslots allotted for sending and receiving data is flexible. Generally it's asymmetrical, with three timeslots for data reception and just one for transmission (because transmission mainly involves simply sending commands to a server). This is the typical setup when accessing websites.
Note: Telefónica O2 Czech Republic, a.s. is the only operator in the Czech Republic offering the HSCSD service. Your phone's manual will tell you how many timeslots (transmission channels) your telephone can employ when using HSCSD .
