Telefónica O2 opens a new hosting center

7.4.2008

Telefónica O2 is opening a new hosting center in Hradec Králové, which ranks among the most modern hosting centers in Europe owing to its technical parameters. The company is thus expanding its capacity in the field of ICT and is solidifying its position as the top provider of ICT solutions on the Czech market.

Telefónica O2 currently operates the Nagano hosting center, which was opened in 2002 in the Prague quarter of Žižkov. Because of the high demand for this type of service and its constant development, the capacity of this center is nearly full. On the basis of this, the company decided to build a new center in Hradec Králové.

"With rapid developments in the field of managed services and outsourcing, demands on the capacity of our technologies have also grown. We decided to build the new hosting center not only to increase our current potential, but primarily so that we may continue to make further developments in ICT solutions, providing customers with the most comprehensive services possible in this field," says Zdeněk Kaplan, Executive Director for the Development of Business Services and Solutions.

During the design and subsequent construction of the new hosting center, great emphasis was placed on fulfilling requested technical parameters, abiding by all valid norms and regulations, and implementing standards that have been tested and confirmed by Telefónica O2 over several years of the successful operation of data centers and internal systems. The entire surface area of the center is 900 m2, comprised of three individual halls each 300 m2 in size. Connectivity with the outside world is assured through a direct redundant connection to the Telefónica O2 backbone network with a speed of 2 x 10 Gbit.

To assure high accessibility in the area of feeding, a fully redundant energy center with an independent circuit, including a transformer station in which transformers with 4 MVA total power are situated, has been built. A diesel generator and an uninterrupted power source (UPS) motor generator for handling possible network power failures are integral parts of the energy center. Each of the data halls is connected to the energy center by two independent supplies with a total input of 640 kVA separately.

For the purpose of maintaining a safeguarded environment for the placement of ICT technologies, each hall is equipped with a climate control system that consists of two independent circuits. Each circuit contains four independent climate control units. The total cooling power for one hall is 400 kW.

Major attention has also been devoted to security, both physical and in terms of the facility. The entire hosting center is equipped with an industrial television system with 24-hour recording, a system for checking and managing entry, an electronic security and fire alarm system, including an automatic extinguishing system. And of course the center has guards on duty 24 hours a day.
