O2 Foundation to distribute CZK 10 million to support disadvantaged children and young people

In the seventh year of the Regional Grants project, the O2Foundation will distribute CZK 10 million to non-state non-profit organisations throughout the Czech Republic. CZK 1,250,000 will be distributed to support disadvantaged children and young people to each of eight regions.

" When making decisions on awarding a grant, the main criterion is quality of submitted projects and their contribution to children and young people. We are glad to again support long-term projects of well-established non-profit organisations. However, the new projects and young organisations have the same chance though they do not have a long tract, trying to complete the blanks in their regions," said Ivana Šatrová, Manager of O2 Foundation projects. " 70 % of last year's winning organisations were awarded the grant for the first time or second time. This way I wish to encourage those organisations that have been applying for our programme repeatedly but have not been successful so far," added Ivana Šatrová.

Nongovernmental non-profit organisations may send their requests for grant by 30 April 2008. The applicants will find specific terms on the O2 Foundation website (www.nadaceo2.cz). The submitted projects will be evaluated by the individual regional centres by local councils which are composed of specialists in the issue of children and young people, employees of Telefónica O2 and media representatives. Thanks to the fact that the council members live and work in the respective region they know the local environment and applicants ' needs. The winning projects will be announced in October 2008.

The grand finale of the grant procedure will be the traditional O2 Foundation Award in the amount of CZK 1 million. The regional councils will nominate one to two projects of all submitted grant requests from each region. The winner of the O2 Foundation Award will be chosen by the O2 Foundation Board. Through the Award the O2 Foundation wants to acknowledge the nongovernmental non-profit organisation for its courage to change conventions and its effort to initiate social changes. Last year Berkat, community association, was granted this award, which helps children and families of migrants who left their countries affected through war conflicts or poverty and settled in the Czech Republic.

The O2 Foundation's main goal is to support projects that contribute to improving the spiritual and physical development of children and youth, The O2 Foundation also contributes to the development and protection of the environment and communities that we live in.
