YOUTH FROM THROUGHOUT EUROPE COMING TO PRAGUE FOR SEYS 2006 SUMMIT, ČESKÝ TELECOM IS SUMMIT’S GENERAL PARTNER

21.2.2006

From Monday February 20 to Wednesday February 22, Prague is hosting prominent personalities from throughout Europe. Young people who hold important positions in areas of business, science, research and art will address global current events at the SEYS 2006 Summit. ČESKÝ TELECOM, a.s. is the general partner of this gathering.
The European Institute of Social and Economic Development has invited young professionals to the Czech metropolis in the scope of the Successor’s European Youth Summit (SEYS 2006). Guests who will be appearing at the summit include Czech Premier Jiří Paroubek, former Czech President Václav Havel and former Foreign Minister Jiří Dienstbier.
"We believe that it is not necessary to remind the public that people of a relatively young age are asserting themselves in leading positions in all areas of life more often. These people are and will be the key generators of further progress in the world. They will resolve the issues of globalisation, economic development and growth, or problems of global epidemics and international conflicts," says Zdeněk Jirků, Vice-President of the European Institute for Social and Economic Development, as he explains the summit’s main motive. In his opinion, it is logical that young people get important positions in politics, the economy, business and science, as well as research and medicine, as they want to be involved in the process of finding solutions to serious social problems.
For these reasons, an initiative aiming primarily to bring these young people together with prominent global personalities at one table and give them space to express their opinions and ideas about current global issues was established. On Feburary 20-22, 2006, the SEYS 2006 Summit will take place in Prague for this purpose.
At the summit, participants will devote their attention to, for instance, economic growth over the last few years, the situation in the European Union, globalisation, and the growing influence of newly developing countries like China or India. "I believe that these are key themes that every society operating at an international and local level must resolve today," adds Karel Havlíček, Director of Marketing and Business Strategy for the Sindat Group, which is responsible for developing programs for individual summit panels.
