THE BOHNICE INSTITUTE COMES ALIVE WITH THE MEZI PLOTY FESTIVAL

On the weekend of May 27 and 28 the 15 th annual Mezi ploty (Between Fences) festival will take place on the grounds of the Psychiatric Institute in Prague - Bohnice. ČESKÝ TELECOM 's O2 Internet Expres is the traditional partner of the festival.
The Mezi ploty festival is the most distinct and, in terms of its dimensions, the most extensive cultural-artistic exhibition in which renowned performers on the Czech and international theatre and music scenes take part every year.ČESKÝ TELECOM has prepared the opportunity for visitors to surf the Internet for free and at www.quick.czselected concerts will be shown through an online broadcast. There will be several attractions and competitions for children as well. Climbing enthusiasts will have the opportunity to try conquering a climbing wall that will be set up right on the grounds of the Bohnice Institute.
Theatre and music are a major part of the festival, however, space has also been provided for visual art and other artistic disciplines. In addition to professional and amateur artists, there will also be works by handicapped individuals who will present the results of their artistic endeavours to the general public. All works can be acquired for a fee and the proceeds will go towards the development of cultural activities at the Bohnice Psychiatric Institute.
In the music scene, the band Laura a její tygři (Laura and Her Tigers) will open the festival's program. Renowned Czech groups performing at the festival include Mňága a ŽďorpandSunshine.Miro ŽbirkaandVlasta Třešňákand his band will also perform there. The festival will also feature performances by Brno's intimate bigbeat band Ty Syčáci, as well as VEGA, a rock band whose members are mentally handicapped. Foreign artists performing at the festival includeSka2tonics.
In the theatre hall, audiences will be able to see entertaining productions that include Divadlo v Řeznickédirector Miroslav Krobot's "Důkaz" (Proof). On the children's stage, Prague amateur groupDivadélko Nahoď (Little Plaster Theatre) will perform a fairytale musical called the Magic Wand. Other activities and events that have been prepared for festival goers include Ivánku kamaráde (Ivan, My Friend), Petr Čtvrtníček and Jiří Lábus'"indecent word" game. From creative workshops, visitors can look forward to exhibits byDan Malýand Jitka Jeslínková, and Kurz FIMO.
The Mezi ploty Festival is a unique event owing to its singular way of attempting to eliminate public taboos of the field of psychiatry and to get rid of prejudices with the help of mental help specialists. Therefore, psychiatry as such is not marginalised in the scope of the program. In the so-called psychotherapeutic stands, visitors can become acquainted with the techniques of art therapy, music therapy and drama therapy thanks to the participation of several prominent specialists from the Czech Association for Psychic Health.
