Enhanced Data Rates for GSM Evolution. A technology built on the GSM network options using eight-phase modulations. When using EDGE in connection with so-called packet transmission (GPRS) a transmission speed of up to 60 kbit/s on one physical channel can be reached, while theoretically the speed can reach 384 kb/s. This technology needs to be supported by the phone/modem.
