EDGE
EDGE in the O2 network connects your PC or laptop to the Internet via your mobile phone at connection speeds three or four times faster than with GPRS.
Connect to the Internet faster than before. EDGE technology works like data transmission via GPRS, but at speeds three or four time higher. If you're already using GPRS , and if you're in an area with the highest GPRS traffic, you will automatically be connected via EDGE - at no extra charge.
Advantages of EDGE in the O2 network
- high-speed, mobile connection to the Internet
- three to four times faster than standard GPRS data transmission
- setup and connection via mobile phone are just like with GPRS
- connection speeds change automatically according to GPRS / EDGE availability
- available abroad with certain roaming partners
EDGE (Enhanced Data Rates for Global Evolution) is a faster version of GPRS - both function by transferring data in the form of individual packets.
New users
To begin using EDGE
or GPRS
services, first activate the
data tariff of your choice.
Current users
If you've been connecting to the Internet via
GPRS, you can now use EDGE
to do so
at much higher speeds - no need to make any changes, no
additional fees. First you need a mobile phone that
supports EDGE
technology and an activated
data tariff of your choice. Then
you need to
set up your phone for GPRS
data
transmission. Lastly, make sure you're in an
area covered by the EDGE signal. If
so, you can get connected to the Internet right away.
Mobile telephones that support EDGE
will enable you to transmit data using EDGE technology.
