ČESKÝ TELECOM CONNECTS ITS 350 000th BROADBAND INTERNET CUSTOMER
Apr 26, 2006
Today, ČESKÝ TELECOM connected its 350 000th broadband ADSL customer in the Czech Republic to the Internet. Unprecedented interest has been ongoing since February of this year, when an average of around 8 000 customers have been ordering broadband services every week. At the same time, ČESKÝ TELECOM has been covering an increasing number of localities in the Czech Republic with state-of-the-art technology for broadband access. To this day, the total is 1 407, which is 7% greater than it had been at the beginning of this year.
At present, Prague has the highest number of broadband Internet subscribers. At the end of April the Czech capital had over 86 000 customers who were surfing the Internet via broadband connections over fixed lines; this represents roughly one quarter of all subscribers. The region of Central Bohemia took second place in terms of the number of subscribers (40 504), and was closely followed by the region of Moravia-Silesia (37 675).
The Central Bohemian region has shown the greatest growth over the last few months (132%), followed by the region of Southern Bohemia (131%) and the Highlands (Vysočina) region (131%).
In terms of the number of ADSL subscribers per 100 residents, statistics show that the greatest broadband Internet penetration is occurring in Prague, where an average of 7.4 residents per 100 are connected in this manner. In its virtual position as the winner, the metropolis is followed by the regions of Olomouc (3.74) and Central Bohemia (3.608).
Exceeding 350 000 customers means that from the beginning of this year, when roughly 275 000 citizens had broadband ADSL connections, the customer base has risen by 27% (75 000). “With regards to the considerable interest that our O2 Internet Expres service is experiencing at present, we expect to reach the next milestone, that is, 400 000 ADSL subscribers in the Czech Republic, before the holidays,” promises Martin Žabka, ČESKÝ TELECOM Press Spokesman, when speaking of the constantly growing number of orders.
