We protect surfing children

We help to create safe internet and telecommunications environment
The world of modern technology is more and more fancy and perfect, it offers lots of new opportunities like new information, searching for information, playing games, watching films, etc., which is exactly why it is loved so much by kids and teenagers. Today’s children and teenagers understand new technologies better than their parents. They can perfectly use internet, cell phone and other tools. However, is spite of their parents, they lack experience. Lots of children thus cannot foresee the risks new technologies can bring beside fun and information. As a communications services provider we want to use any available means to eliminate potential risks the world of modern technologies brings.

We support the Safer Internet project – we supported the international Central & Eastern European Safer Internet Conference (CEE SIC) that took place in Prague on 5 and 6 November 2007, for more info see www.saferinternet.cz a www.conference.saferinternet.cz

Informační leták o projektu

We actively participate in public discussions and professional debates debates the aim of which is to protect kids from being abused through communications technologies – we are, for instance, members of the Safer Internet project Advisory Committee.

We are a general partner to the Safety Line Association. We support the Safety Line and Safer Internet guidelines for kids at Internet Helpline

With our O2 Foundation we help to fight bullying at schools – we support the Minimization of Bullying project, which looks for ways of effective minimization at Czech schools.

Gemius company brings alarming results of children’s on-line behaviour survey that was conducted within two target groups from June till October 2006 as a part of Czech Saferinternet.cz project. In the first target group there were Internet users from 12 to 17 years of age (altogether 1545 persons) and in the other there were persons of 18 years of age and more (altogether 13994 persons). In addition to that, parents of children from 12 to 17 years of age were separated within the other group. Children who have encountered someone on Internet (49%) often reveal their:

  • e-mail address (84%),
  • photograph (73%),
  • phone number (60%).

to unknown internet users.

Resending of personal data is quite usual according to the survey results – most of the questioned kids were repeatedly sending their phone number (72%), photograph (79%) and e-mail address (91%) to unknown internet users. Almost half of the kids sent their home address without realising how dangerous it was! Another alarming thing is that half of the kids, who were offered a meeting outside the world of Internet, really went to the meeting with a stranger!

Eurobarometr survey conducted in 29 European countries in 2007 brings results on the use of on-line technologies by children. Survey respondents were divided in two groups of children from 9 to 10 and 12 to 14 years of age. The results give away that:

  • kids use their cell phones the most to receive and make phone calls and send and receive SMS messages,
  • and kids also use their cell phones to send and download pictures and to access Internet.
